The Sonora Police Department Event Blotter provides a comprehensive overview of recent law enforcement activities in the Sonora area. This report highlights significant incidents, arrests, and community engagement efforts undertaken by the Sonora Police Department to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors alike. From routine patrols to specialized operations, the blotter offers insight into the diligent work of our dedicated officers as they uphold the law and serve the community with integrity.

Recent Incidents: **Identifying information was purposely redacted to preserve case integrity pending disposition.

  1. April 27, 2024: Officer C. Lopez responded to Mesquite Street, reference to two runaway juveniles (9 & 13). Officer met with the caller who advised her grandchildren left the residence and ran to their  biological mother’s house. The grandmother stated she was given custody of her two grandchildren by CPS but the paperwork she provided did not state such. Officer spoke to CPS who advised neither party was granted custody of the children. The information was relayed to the grandmother and advised to contact the court.
  2. April 27, 2024: Officer C. Lopez responded to apartments on Dollie Street, reference verbal disturbance. Officer spoke to the couple who advised it was verbal only. The male agreed to leave for the night and was picked up by his brother. 
  3. April 27, 2024: Sgt. D. Fernandez responded to 3rd and Concho to investigate a motor vehicle collision. The collision was a single vehicle that crashed into a fence, missing the house by a few feet. Fiber optic recent installation for the internet was damaged as well. The juvenile driver (16) was treated on scene by EMS and released.  The vehicle was totaled and the damage was estimated over 100K. Juvenile was cited for failure to control speed and referred to Juvenile Probation.
  4. April 24, 2024: Sgt. D. Fernandez assisted Trooper Jarret on I-10 near 400 Exit with traffic stop.  During the traffic stop, Trooper located 500 vape pens and 16lbs. of marijuana. Subjects were traveling to Houston from Odessa. Two subjects were arrested and charged with manufacturing and possession of marijuana.
  5. April 20, 2024: Sgt. H. Reyna responded to New Street regarding a father and son fighting, and a gun was involved. Sgt. was able to make contact with the father and mother who advised it was a verbal argument only and no gun involved. The son had left to his grandparent's house and also stated the argument was verbal in nature. The mother advised she would allow the son to stay at the grandparent's house for the night.

Arrests:

  1. April 23, 2024: Sgt. H. Reyna filed for an arrest warrant on Jose Reyes (44) for the offense of Criminal Trespass. Warrant was issued and Jose Reyes was arrested by Sgt. W. Merket without incident.
  2. April 19, 2024: Officer J. De Hoyos responded to welfare concern at the DK Convenience Store. Officer met with Roger Dale Carter (55) who stated he was riding his bicycle from Odessa to Houston. Officer requested EMS and Carter was examined. Once EMS cleared the scene, Carter was arrested by the officer for an active TDCJ warrant for Parole Violation.
  3. April 17, 2024: Carlos Robles, Jr. (42) was arrested by Sgt. D. Fernandez for an active Sutton County warrant for Theft. During the arrest, Robles was also cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Community Engagement:

  1. May 31, 2024: Provided presence at Sonora High School graduation.
  2. May 13, 2024: Participated in Police Officer Memorial Ceremony on Sutton County Courthouse lawn. **Sonora PD, Sutton County SO, DPS
  3. April 30, 2024: Supported the Special Olympics athletes during their send-off from the High School campus. **Sonora PD, Sutton County SO, DPS
  4. April 25, 2024: Attended quarterly Southwest Border Security Brief in Kerrville, Texas; sponsored by the Joint Operations Information Center (JOIC) and the United States Border Patrol.
  5. April 19, 2024: Conducted "Civilian Interaction with the Police" presentation at the Sonora High School. Mandatory for High School Juniors/Seniors. **Sonora PD, Sutton County SO, DPS
